A legislative amendment passed by the French Senate yesterday, which is expected to become effective on 1October 2007, will change the calculation method for social security charges, and will apply to salaries paid on or after this date. The amendment will curtail the benefit of the revised method of calculation introduced (with retroactive effect) earlier this year.

As we mentioned in our media release of 26 July 2007, the positive impact of the revised calculation method amounted to EUR 8.8 million in the second quarter of this year. As a result of the amendment this benefit will no longer occur after 1October 2007 and we anticipate the positive benefit to be lower in the third quarter of this year as compared with the second quarter because the change will also apply to September salaries which are paid in October.
