New jobs may be about to be opened up in South Africa following the news that Nissan and Renault are to offer positions there.
A Renault-Nissan plant based at Pretoria, they both suggested, could have the capabilities to improve the links between the two companies and lead to 300 positions, reports the Herald.
Both added that they are fully committed to the South African market and this switch will see the development of components from the surrounding area.
Nissan South Africa managing director Mike Whitfield said that his firm is trying to sustain its reputation.
"In the coming years, Renault will expand the product line-up offered to South African customers with vehicles ranging from entry-level to upper range," remarked managing director of Renault South Africa Xavier Gobille.
High wages can be given to people in South Africa because of poor competition, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development has noted, but these wages mean many others are unemployed.
